The 2013 National Lacrosse League season is going to end just as it started – the Rochester Knighthawks will travel west to take on the Washington Stealth.

The Knighthawks and Stealth both finished the year second in their respective divisions.  League wide, the Stealth is the third seed while the Knighthawks are fifth.  Rochester and Washington have met twice this season; each team winning on their home turf.  Washington took the first – and the only game in week one – 13-12. In week five, Rochester won 7-6 in this season’s lowest-scoring game. READ MORE »

The National Lacrosse League Divisional Finals get underway on Saturday afternoon as the defending champion Rochester Knighthawks host of the Minnesota Swarm.  Unlike the Knighthawks and Swarm, who haven’t met since a December 2012 pre-season game, the Calgary Roughnecks and Washington Stealth faced off three times in the 2013 season.  Only one of those three games was played in Calgary, the last game of the series, the Stealth coming away with the win. Both games will be broadcast live back-to-back on CBS Sports Network. READ MORE »

There are no strangers as the National Lacrosse League divisional semifinals kick off on Saturday evening; Minnesota and Toronto have met twice previously and all others have faced off three times in 2013.

You don’t need to love stats as much as I do to find the previous match-ups between these playoff pairings oddly fascinating.  The K‘hawks have doubled up twice on the Wings; in each of the three Rush-Stealth games, the losing team scored 10 goals; when Colorado and Calgary met, the home team scored 12 goals; and in both Swarm-Rock games, the winner scored 13 and the loser 12.
