When the Professional Lacrosse League was created, a major component of its declared mandate was to help American players evolve in the box game and blaze a trail to the National Lacrosse League. With NLL teams starting to get their pre-season schedule under way, a number of PLL players are taking he first step on what they hope will be a successful journey by attending camps.

The majority will be among the contenders when the Philadelphia Wings open their camp next weekend. Seven players currently on PLL rosters are scheduled to hit the floor for Wings tryouts. Greg Rogowski, Ethan Farrell and Erik Holt of the Charlotte Copperheads will be in camp. They’ll be joined by five Reading Rockets. Dana Wilber and Bret Moyer will be on hand along with Andrew and Chris Collins. Scotty Komer is also at Wings camp looking to grab the backup goalie spot. He was a Rocket but played just two minutes before a collision drove his head into the crossbar. The resulting concussion has prevented him from playing any further with the Rockets, although he is on track to be healthy and ready to go with Philadelphia. READ MORE »

PLL: Reading Rockets move final home game to Saturday December 1

In an effort to continue their efforts to create a affordable, family-friendly entertainment value, the Reading Rockets have decided to take advantage of a Saturday night opening in the Sovereign Center schedule and move their November 29th game to December 1st.
The Rockets will be hosting the rival Charlotte Copperheads to close out their home schedule, before heading to Syracuse to close out the season on December 8th. Tickets and vouchers for the 29th game will be honored at the Sovereign Center Box Office.

“We felt that moving the game to the Saturday was a better way to accommodate families who might not be able to have their kids come out to a Thursday game,” said Rockets Vice President and General Manager Andy Makal. “We appreciate the help of the Sovereign Center and SMG staff who have been working with us to find ways to enhance our product and helping us generate fan support.” READ MORE »

Stanley Cup champion Bill Clement climbs on board with the Reading Rockets

The Reading Rockets will have a face familiar to many Pennsylvania sports fans on board tonight when they play host to the Charlotte Copperheads in a Professional Lacrosse League game. Two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Philadelphia Flyers Bill Clement has established a partner relationship with the Rockets. Clement cited the team’s approach to community service as a major reason for wanting to be involved with the team. For their part, Rockets VP and GM Andy Makal says the current NHL broadcaster is exactly the kind of person they want associated with the team. “Bill’s not only a recognizable name in the southeastern PA sports scene, he’s also a genuine guy who’s dealt with adversity throughout his life and still became a success,” Makal says on the PLL web site. “His commitment to doing well by doing good and ability to teach through his own life lessons make him an ideal partner for our community outreach programs.”

Breaking News: Jacksonville Bullies will not play the rest of the 2012 PLL season

The Professional Lacrosse League has lost another team, at least temporarily. Jacksonville Bullies owner Chris Milo has confirmed that his team will not be playing any more games this season. Milo said he is confident his team and the league will be back and will be stronger in 2013. “We’re not necessarily suspending operations. We’re going to keep moving on,” Milo told IL Indoor. “It’s just that we’ve cut our season short because of all the turmoil we went through before the season and some stuff during the season. I’m moving forward with my organization, reorganizing and looking for new sponsors, new season ticket holders and everything. So we’re still moving forward, we’re still going. We’re not shutting down.” READ MORE »
