The 2013 National Lacrosse League season is going to end just as it started – the Rochester Knighthawks will travel west to take on the Washington Stealth.

Due to scheduling conflicts, the title game will be played in Langley, British Columbia at the Langley Events Centre, home of 2011 and 2012 pre-season NLL games. The Knighthawks advanced to their second Champion’s Cup in as many years defeating the Minnesota Swarm 12-10 on Saturday afternoon.  The Washington Stealth will play in their third final in four years after outscoring the Calgary Roughnecks 14-13 on Saturday evening. The 2013 National Lacrosse League playoffs kicked off Saturday afternoon as the Rochester Knighthawks hosted the Philadelphia Wings.  Though they managed to tie the game twice, the Wings never took the lead, eventually being defeated 10-8 by the defending champions.  Down 7-2 at the half the Washington Stealth outscored the Edmonton Rush 10-4 in the second 30 minutes in a nailbiter that saw Washington advance to the Divisional Finals.  Also having met three times this season, the Colorado Mammoth and Calgary Roughnecks had fans on the edge of their seats as the game was knotted at 7 going into the half.  Holding the Mammoth scoreless in the third the Roughnecks come out on top with a convincing 15-10 win.  On Sunday afternoon, the high-scoring, fast-paced action of the Minnesota Swarm proved too much for the league leading Toronto Rock as the Swarm outscored their opponent in every quarter towards a 20-11 win. There were three teams fighting for the two remaining playoff berths last weekend in the National Lacrosse League.

In front of a record-breaking 19,070 fans, the Buffalo Bandits dropped their 10th game this season and missed the post-season for the first time since 2002 as the Rochester Knighthawks defeated the Bandits last Saturday night.  Scoring seven fourth quarter goals secured the Mammoth’s spot in the playoffs as Colorado beat the Minnesota Swarm for the second time this season.  READ MORE »

National Lacrosse League East Division leaders Toronto Rock failed to secure their spot as league leaders when they lost their last regular season game to the Philadelphia Wings.  Later on Saturday, Minnesota won the first of the Swarm’s week 15/16 home and home series against the Mammoth in Colorado.  In only their third trip to Calgary, the Rochester Knighthawks picked up their first win at the Saddledome, edging out the Roughnecks in a close battle.  In the fourth game on Saturday, the Buffalo Bandits snapped their six game losing streak win a win against the Washington Stealth.  On Sunday, the Edmonton Rush regained first place in Shanny’s Power Rankings as they got only their second home win of the season and postponed Rochester’s playoff hopes. It was another busy weekend in the National Lacrosse League as week 14 saw all nine teams back in action.  On Saturday, the struggling Rochester Knighthawks got a much needed home win over the Philadelphia Wings in the first game of the weekend for both teams.  Topping their week 13 franchise high 20 goals, the Minnesota Swarm scored a new team high 21 goals against the Buffalo Bandits, who have now lost six consecutive games.  The Edmonton Rush, who have had trouble winning at Rexall, dropped another home game against the Colorado Mammoth on Saturday night.  In another close match, the Washington Stealth clinched a playoff berth with a win on Saturday against the Calgary Roughnecks. It was a Good Friday in the National Lacrosse League for the Toronto Rock and Minnesota Swarm. In the first of two games in Week 13 for Toronto, the Rock netted nine straight goals, handing the Buffalo Bandits their fifth consecutive loss. Taking advantage of a Brandon Miller-less Philadelphia Wings, the Minnesota Swarm scored a franchise-high 20 goals in their win on Friday night. In their second game of the weekend, the Rochester Knighthawks’ defense held the Toronto Rock scoreless in the first quarter, the first time the Rock have failed to score in any quarter this season, and went on to beat the first place team. Later on Saturday, the Wings dropped their second of the weekend to the Colorado Mammoth, extending their losing streak to four. In the last game of the weekend, the Calgary Roughnecks returned to Washington, this time coming away with the road win against the Stealth.

Week 12 of the National Lacrosse League was fairly quiet with only three games on the schedule. In the first of their two games last weekend, the Edmonton Rush doubled up on the Bandits in Buffalo, handing the Bandits their fourth consecutive loss. The Colorado Mammoth were leading the Calgary Roughnecks at the half, letting the lead slip, they tied the game with 38 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, sending the battle to overtime; the Roughnecks scored the winner 21 seconds into OT. Making it five wins in a row, the Edmonton Rush, who now sit atop Shanny’s Power Rankings with five wins in a row, continued to dominate east division teams with a win in Toronto against the Rock on Sunday afternoon. Week 11 of the National Lacrosse League featured the anticipated rematch of the 2012 Champions Cup game between the Edmonton Rush and Rochester Knighthawks; this time, a confident Rush team didn’t blow an early lead, and defeated the Knighthawks 11-9. The Philadelphia Wings, who handed the Toronto Rock their first loss back in Week 3, hosted the first place team on Saturday afternoon; this time, the Rock ended the Wings’ win streak, beating them 13-8. A struggling Minnesota Swarm hosted the west division first place Washington Stealth on Saturday evening; each with a home turf win so far this season, the Swarm, who held the Stealth scoreless for 32 minutes, came away with a 12-5 home win. The last game of the weekend was a re-match of week 10’s penalty ridden game between the Colorado Mammoth and Buffalo Bandits. Snapping their 5 game losing streak last weekend, the Mammoth continued their winning ways, defeating the Bandits 16-13. READ MORE »

Week 10 of the National Lacrosse League season had three first time match-ups of the 2013 season. On Friday night, both teams coming off a loss, the Toronto Rock hosted the Colorado Mammoth for the first time since 2007. The Rock started off slow, but seven second quarter goals gave them a commanding lead going into the half, eventually besting the Mammoth. In the only inner-division game of the weekend, the Minnesota Swarm and Calgary Roughnecks, both looking to snap two game losing streaks faced off in Calgary. With the win on Friday, the ‘necks have won both times these two have met this season. On Saturday, continuing their east division road trip, the Colorado Mammoth played in Buffalo. Scoring eight unanswered goals, the Mammoth picked up their first win since February 2nd. In the weekend’s third inter-division game, the Philadelphia Wings hosted the Washington Stealth. Both teams riding win streaks, the Stealth came out on top, winning their first ever game in Philadelphia. READ MORE »

In week 5 of the National Lacrosse League the Toronto Rock stunned Bandit fans when they picked up the road win. Last week, in a rare Thursday evening game, Buffalo, looking for redemption, beat the Rock 15-13. Buffalo returned home to face the Philadelphia Wings on Friday night; the two have met twice previously this season, each with a home win. Spending too much time in the box and trailing after 2, the Wings outscored the Bandits in the second half sending the game to overtime and ultimately scored the game-winning goal 3.5 minutes into OT, besting the Bandits 11-10. On Saturday, in a game that would define last place in the league, the Rochester Knighthawks held onto a second half lead to defeat the Colorado Mammoth 12-11. Also on Saturday, the Edmonton Rush broke a 12 game regular season winless streak against Alberta rivals the Calgary Roughnecks in a commanding 18-13 win in Calgary. On Sunday, in the only home-floor win of the weekend, the Washington Stealth came out on top over the Minnesota Swarm 11-8. READ MORE »
