Will it be a third NLL Champion’s Cup in franchise history for the Calgary Roughnecks or a third consecutive Cup for the Rochester Knighthawks? Will it be a sweep for the Riggers who won game one or come down to another mini-game if the K-Hawks win game two?

Scoring the first goal two minutes into the game, the Roughnecks kept their playoff party rocking in front of nearly 17,000 enthusiastic fans last weekend as they held the lead against the Knighthawks for the entire game.

The Rochester Knighthawks find themselves in a similar situation as the Division Finals; they lost game one to the Buffalo Bandits before winning game two and then advancing to the finals by winning in overtime after tying the mini-game. Can they do it again? Or do the Roughnecks keep their momentum rolling and win their first Champion’s Cup since 2009? READ MORE »

Will home field advantage be the deciding factor in the NLL race for the Champions Cup? It would sure seem so after the hometown Rush and Knighthawks evened the score against the Roughnecks and Bandits forcing both series to mini-games to determine Division winners.

Coming out strong last Friday night, the Rush scored eight goals in 15 minutes and another seven through the remaining 45 minutes to take the W in game two. The record-breaking Rush’s season would end shortly after as the Calgary Roughnecks outscored them 2-1 in the mini-game, advancing to their third Champion’s Cup in franchise history.

Will home field advantage be the deciding factor in the NLL race for the Champions Cup? It would sure seem so after the hometown Bandits and Roughnecks picked up game one wins in the Division Finals last weekend.

In New York, the lead went from Rochester to Buffalo and back to Rochester at the end of each quarter and despite being shut out in the third, the Bandits scored six in the final frame, picking up their first win at home since March 15th. The Knighthawks have won both regular season games against the Bandits played in Rochester this season; can they use that to their advantage as game two goes down Saturday in Roch?

If last weekend’s NLL division semi-finals games weren’t textbook edge-of-your seat action I don’t know what is.

The Buffalo Bandits, who had been on an eight-game losing skid, were ready for a battle last Saturday in Toronto, scoring fast and often, leading the Rock after both the first and second quarters. Tied at the end of the third, the Bandits escaped their fourth quarter meltdown, outscoring their opponents, finally getting a win, and now hosting the Rochester Knighthawks in game one of the East Division finals this coming Saturday.

Let’s get ready to rumble!

In a fairly unsurprising week 18 in the NLL, the Colorado Mammoth and Calgary Roughnecks both finished the regular season with wins in their respective games last weekend, keeping spirits and confidence high as they prep to face off against each other come Saturday in a single game elimination Divisional Semi-Final. Over in the East Division, the Buffalo Bandits dropped their eighth straight in Rochester while the Toronto Rock swept the Minnesota Swarm to nab second place in the East and the coveted home floor playoff game.

All six playoff spot have been filled – Edmonton, Calgary, and Colorado in the West, and Rochester, Buffalo, and Toronto in the East. The only variable left to determine is will there be a home playoff game in Buffalo or Toronto?

Buffalo could have locked up second place in the East with a win in either Toronto or Rochester last weekend; instead the Bandits, who once sat atop the division, extended their losing streak to seven games, dropping a pair on the road and leaving their chance at a home playoff game down to the wire.

Who Ya Got? NLL Week 17 Fan Poll

Will it be the Stealth or Mammoth? Only one spot remains in the NLL playoffs.

Competing in a close game two weeks ago, the Colorado Mammoth did the (seemingly) unimaginable last Friday by handing the Edmonton Rush their first loss of the season. Trading goals for most of the game, the Toronto Rock netted the game winner early in the fourth quarter against Philadelphia on Saturday to secure the third and final East Division playoff berth and eliminate the Wings from contention. It wasn’t an OT winner like in week 13, but it was the second 10-9 W for the Minnesota Swarm over the Buffalo Bandits this season.

The playoff race continues to intensify; Edmonton and Rochester are already in, Buffalo and Calgary punched their ticket last weekend, and now we’re down to five teams fighting for two berths.

Tied after the first, third, and fourth quarters, the Rochester Knighthawks started their home-and-home series against the Swarm with an overtime win in Minnesota on Friday. Back in Rochester on Saturday, the Knighthawks led the Swarm for the entire game, sweeping the series and putting more room between them and East Division second place Buffalo Bandits.

Two down, four more to go. The playoff race is getting hot in the NLL as wins from the Vancouver Stealth and Philadelphia Wings last weekend closed the gaps a little more in both the West and East Divisions.

Getting the party started last Saturday night, the Edmonton Rush extended their run to 12-0 with a win over East Division leading Knighthawks in Rochester. Despite the Swarm’s big boost of confidence and starting Saturday’s game against the Roughnecks with a two-goal lead and keeping it tied at the end of the second and third quarters, Minnesota dropped their tenth game of the season in Calgary.

It was the calm before the storm last Friday in the NLL as both Edmonton and Calgary defeated their opponents with ease before the close games that saw Philadelphia and Minnesota win on Saturday and Sunday in games that had most betting against them.

In a (then) top of the East versus the top of the West showdown in Edmonton on Friday night, Buffalo was leading at the end of the first quarter but the Rush D shut them out for 35 minutes and outscored the Bandits 12-2 through the last three quarters. Also on Friday, the Calgary Roughnecks scored the first seven in Vancouver, handing the Stealth their ninth loss of the season.
