We’ve reached the final matchup of the first round for our National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week contest, so the only thing left to do is vote and keep this thing rolling. Last week’s matchup saw Toronto’s Krista steamroll past Danielle of Buffalo by a count of 4,039 to 1,028, which is a bit interesting because the Bandits and Rock are getting ready to square off this weekend. Is this a sign of things to come? We’ll know more late Saturday night but in the meantime, it’s time to introduce our contestants for the final first-round matchup: It’s Amy of the Rochester Knightingales and Alexa of the Calgary Drill Crew. It was an old-fashioned shootout in last week’s National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week contest. From the Vancouver Bombshells, Brittany pulled in more than 45,000 votes but it still wasn’t enough to get to the next round, because Joscelyn of the Edmonton Crush pulled in more than 46,000 votes. Final tally? Joscelyn 46,184, Brittany 45,815. Ah, the power of social media. But that matchup clears us from the first half of the bracket and we’re heading down the stretch of the first round now. And to keep it going, we’ve got Nikki of the Colorado Wild Bunch going up against Michelle of the Calgary Drill Crew. READ MORE »
Norah Jean is doing something in Toronto that the Rock haven’t been doing very much of in the National Lacrosse League: winning. That’s not a knock on the Rock because, of course, these are 2 very different games. But if the fans in Toronto want something to cheer, Norah Jean the cheerleader would be a good start. That’s because Norah Jean advanced to the next round of our National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week contest with a 5,168-1,727 win over Ashley of the Philadelphia Angels. And so as that matchup brings an end to the first round on one side of the bracket, let’s get the other side started with a showdown between 2 dancers from the West Division: Brittany of the Vancouver Bombshells and Joscelyn of the Edmonton Crush. We had an old-fashioned West Division shootout last week, the third matchup of our National Lacrosse League girl of the week contest. And that matchup produced a win for Alyssa, who outpolled Brooklyn by a count of 1,157 to 133. Today, we’re back to the East, and much more. In the context of voting contests for NLL dance team members, we bring to you this week an old-fashioned shootout between blonde and brunette. From Toronto, we have Norah Jean the brunette. And from Philadelphia, we have Ashley, the blonde. Who’s going to come out on top this week? We won’t know until next Tuesday, but we do know this: no one’s gonna win if you don’t vote. READ MORE »
We’re at the halfway point of the first round of our National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week contest and now it’s time for a good old fashioned West Division showdown. The first 2 weeks of this contest pitted an East vs. West matchup followed by a pair of East Division dancers going head-to-head. And in that one, it was Kelsey of Buffalo defeating Jorina of Philadelphia by a count of 9,929 to 6,950. So now we head West for a matchup between Brooklyn of the Vancouver Bombshells and Alyssa of the Colorado Wild Bunch. So update your personal brackets with the Week 2 result, then do your part to get Week 3 started by voting. READ MORE »
Ready or not, it’s time for Week 2 of our National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week contest, and this matchup pits a pair of old East Division rivals. Of course, Jorina of the Philadelphia Angels and Kelsey of the Buffalo Bandettes don’t play lacrosse on the NLL rug so they may not have that particular vantage point, but it doesn’t matter where you are in the building when these teams meet because the energy is palpable. But before we get to the voting for these 2 dancers, it’s important to know that Chantelle of the Edmonton Crush opened this year’s tournament with a solid win over Emilie of the Rochester Knightingales with a 700-48 victory. That said, it’s onward to the second matchup. READ MORE »
The National Lacrosse League Girl of the Week contest has been going strong since we lit up our servers in 2008. And as we kick off the matchups for the 2014 season, we expect nothing less than high-peaked interest. So what better way to get it all started than with an East vs. West matchup? A rookie vs. a veteran? That’s where we are with Emilie of Rochester, a member of the Rochester Knightingales for 6 seasons, and Chantelle, a rookie with the Edmonton Crush. If you’re a veteran reader here, you know the drill. And if you’re a relative n00b, well, it’s really not that hard to catch on. READ MORE »
