It’s Military Appreciation Night for the Colorado Mammoth tonight when they take on the Buffalo Bandits in Week 4 action of the National Lacrosse League. It’s the second year the team has hosted an appreciation night for service members, where players will wear jerseys and shorts resembling military fatigues. On the players’ uniforms will be names and branches of veterans on the right side of the chest, and those currently in service will see their names on the left side. “Honoring active and retired military is the least we can do as an organization to thank the brave men and women who protect our freedom,” Mammoth president and general manager Steve Govett told the team’s website. “This game has much greater significance than most other regular-season games.” Some of the jerseys and all of the game-worn shorts will be auctioned through the end of halftime with proceeds to benefit The Home Front Cares, an organization that helps veterans in need. And at halftime, fans can witness a swearing-in ceremony for future military members.Chavez is an avid lacrosse player in Rochester and a journalist for the Democrat and Chronicle as well as a longtime Inside Lacrosse contributor.
