Rush rookie Robert Church to miss season opener with illness

The Edmonton Rush will be without their first-round rookie, Robert Church, as they open the season in Colorado tonight. The team reports that Church has the flu and will have to miss the game, which would have been the National Lacrosse League debut for the player Edmonton selected fifth overall in the 2013 entry draft. The Rush still have plenty of youth on the roster, though. The Edmonton Journal reports that both of the Rush’s 2012 first-rounders–Mark Matthews and Curtis Knight–are fitter and stronger as they return for their second seasons, while a pair of picks from this year’s second round are ready to roll if called on tonight: Riley Loewen and Adrian Sorichetti.
