With the start of the National Lacrosse League regular season on Saturday, Dec. 28 right around the corner, registration for the 2014 NLL Fantasy Challenge opens this week. Build your fantasy lacrosse roster under the salary cap and compete against friends and other managers for great weekly prizes and the overall grand prize. Fans can begin to register their teams for Week 1 starting today at noon (EST). More than 3,400 fantasy teams participated in the game last year and we’ve used feedback from fans to make some key improvements to this year’s Fantasy Challenge. One of the first things you will notice upon checking out this year’s game is that the stat interface has been completely revamped.
Players listed on your team page will now display their stats from the previous week instead of an accumulation of what they have done since you added them to your roster who knows how long ago. This information should be much more useful to fantasy owners loggingin to see how their players performed in last weekend’s games.
Want to see what your players did in weeks past? You can do that too! The “Players” tab also got a major overhaul because let’s be honest, half the fun of fantasy sports is the stats. Rather than just showing player values and fantasy points, there is now a wide array of statistics available to look at. Furthermore, these stats are all sortable so you can quickly and easily sort by stuff like total goals, saves, or loose balls. The table can further be filtered to weekly, monthly, or overall stats. This should help the more stat-minded fantasy owners out there to find players you think are bargains and avoid those you believe are overpriced.
Speaking of identifying fantasy trends, the Players on Fire/Deep Freeze box has been updated to only include stats from the last three weeks and only players currently listed as “Active.” In past years, this section wasn’t very helpful to fantasy owners since all it did was show whoever had the most and least fantasy points overall, regardless of their recent performance. Now you will want to constantly check this section to see the latest hot and cold streaks from around the National Lacrosse League.
Another big change is that we have added half dollar values to the game. For example, Philadelphia Wings captain Brodie Merrill’s starting value is $16.5. The addition of half dollar values will allow more flexibility and more frequency in value changes throughout the season. We will also launch a new mobile-optimized version of the fantasy site which will allow you to check your team and transfer players from your phone much more easily than before.
As usual, there will be some awesome real-life prizes on the line to compete for this season. Whichever team scores the most fantasy points on a given week will earn a prize and the team sitting atop the fantasy standings at the end of the season will also win something special. Be sure to check out the official team mini-leagues for additional prize opportunities as well.
