Reid Acton makes no bones about his style of play. Asked to describe his game in one word, he replies “Mean.” That’s not a comforting thing for the offensive players who have to face the big, athletic defender on the lacrosse floor. There’s a lot more than just meanness to like about his game if you’re an aficionado of the art of defence, though. Acton came up through the Toronto Beaches program then spent some time with the Orangeville Northmen in Junior A.
He shows sound footwork and takes advantage of his long reach, allowing him to be a tough defender to beat one-on-one. He also has the lacrosse IQ to be an effective part of a team approach to defence. Acton played only five games with the Six Nations Chiefs this summer, but he fit right in with the best team defence in Major Series Lacrosse. He can come out aggressively to defend high but doesn’t tend to overcommit and get caught out of position.
Acton will have an adjustment to make in the National Lacrosse League after not having played a lot of box lacrosse the last few years. That may have an impact on how high he’s selected, but don’t expect him to slip far down the draft board. Acton has first- or second-round talent as a defender and should stand a good chance of battling his way onto an NLL roster.

What role/position do you see yourself playing in the NLL? A strong defensive role. I see myself covering some of the bigger offensive threats and helping out in the transition game as well.
