Throughout the season, fans have been asked to vote for their favorite play from each weekend for the Rochester Knighthawks’ Play of the Week. Now, the 16 winners from each week of the 2013 championship season are going head-to-head for the right to be named the Knighthawks’ Play of the Year. The Play of the Week winners have been divided into four regions — Defense, Behind-the-back Goals, Crafty Helpers and Playmakers. It will be up to the voters to decide which plays advance from the round of 16 and attempt to earn the title as the top play of 2013. You can drop your vote at the Knighthawks site, or in the ballot on ILIndoor that appears following the videos after the jump.
The original 16 plays have been narrowed down to the Elite 8. The winners from this round will determine which plays will represent their region in the Final 4. The first match-up in this round features the top save and breakaway goal out of the Defensive Region. The first contender is Matt Vinc’s save against Rhys Duch with under 20 seconds remaining in the championship against the Stealth. Duch tried to send the game into overtime, but Vinc deflected the ball with left leg.
Taking on Vinc’s save is Brad Self’s breakaway goal against the Buffalo Bandits on February 16. Self scooped up the loose ball along the boards and raced into the offensive zone. He outran a pair of Bandits, avoided a back check, and then buried the ball over goaltender Anthony Cosmo’s right shoulder.
