Aleš Hrebeský Memorial Day 1 wrap up

[Editor's note: Sean Gibson plays for the Dublin Riggers/Tropics and loves cool lacrosse jerseys. This is his eighth Aleš Hrebeský Memorial and third blogging for IL Indoor. He'll have daily reports through the finals.]

Group A

With all three games in the books here is how it broke down:

  • Ladner Pioneers 15-0 over the Polish Eagles
  • Dublin Tropics 4-3 over the Polish Eagles
  • Ladner Pioneers 6-3 over the Dublin Tropics (Match of the Day)

This means both the Pioneers (A1) and Riggers (A2) will advance into the next round. Definitely think you should check out the Pioneers vs Tropics to see what this tournament is all about. The Pioneers and the Tropics are also sporting two of the best sets of uniforms in the tournament.

Group B

Only one game played with a couple of games remaining on day two.

  • LC Jizni Mesto came out 4-1 winners over German team Bundeswehr LC
  • London Kights vs Bundeswehr LC – Remaining
  • LC Jizni Mesto vs London Knights

All to play for and really day two will be the tale of the tape in this one.

Group C

Only one game played with a couple of games remaining on day two.

  • TJ Malesice 8-2 over the Vienna Monarchs
  • Love You to Death 14-1 over the Vienna Monarchs
  • Love You to Death 4-2 winners over TJ Malesice

Love You to Death were full value in this group and proved early that they are one of the teams to beat. TJ Malesice will give teams trouble in the tournament in the later stage, but play a very strong Pioneers team in the playoff round.

Group D

All three games played out in Group D.

  • LCC Wolves were surprise winners early in the morning and put a major cramp in the Deutschland Adler hope with a tightly contested 4-3 game.
  • Nova Scotia Privateers walked to a 7-2 victory over the LCC Wolves
  • In the final game the Nova Scotia Privateers showed their full value in a 13-0 romp over the helpless Deutschland Adler team .

This means the Adler team is most likely relegated to the 17th place playoff. The Privateers will advance as group winners (D1) and the LCC Wolves with Lexi Deis (First female runner in the Ales Hrebesky) advance as (D2).

Group E

This group features two relatively new box lacrosse nations (Silver Birch Leafs and Glasgow Clydesiders) and the Czech powerhouse LCC- Radotin.

  • The Finnish side (Silver Birch Leafs) relied on their hot goalie and previous experience to run out to a 7-2 win over the Clydesiders from Glasgow.
  • In the other game, LCC Radotin put on a clinic and showed their impressive stick skills running up an easy 10-0 over a mesmerized Glasgow Clydesiders.
  • The Silver Birch Leafs and LCC Radotin will both advance but they meet each other in Day Two.

Of note: The Silver Birch Leafs is in the running for the best throw back jersey while the Clydesiders are in the running for the best uniforms.

Group F

This group only features two teams and they will play a two leg challenge to determine the seeding.

  • In the only game played on Day One, the Green Gaels ran out to a 7-4 game over the Bratislava Batz, but this game was a lot closer than it looked on the scoreboard.

Expect the second game in this series to be hotly contested and that the Batz will be looking to reverse this scoreline. Both of these teams are sporting new kit as well and are both in the running for the best uniforms.

Group G

Two games into this group we know the following; Boston is here to play and are one of the favourites to win this tournament.

  • LC Slavia Praha easily emerged 11-1 over the Spartaties/ Goldstar team.
  • The Boston Megamen broke the twenty goal barrier with impressive performances from Brian Bendig and Andrew Wasik, winning 21-0 over the Spartaties/ Goldstar team.
  • LC Slavia Praha and Boston Megamen will battle it out for first around noon on Day Two.

The Megamen looked impressive, though it remains to be seen how they will cope with the defensive pressure applied by some of the strong teams. The Megamen are in there with the Silver Birch Leafs for the best throw back jersey as well.
