The National Lacrosse League has announced Player of the Week awards for Week 15 of the 2013 NLL regular season which featured all nine teams in five games last Saturday and Sunday.
Playing back to back games in Alberta, the Rochester Knighthawks punched their ticket to the playoffs with a win against the Calgary Roughnecks on Saturday before dropping Sunday’s matinee against the West Division leading Edmonton Rush. The Minnesota Swarm also clinched a playoff berth with a road win against the Colorado Mammoth. The Philadelphia Wings won the series against Toronto, winning the second of three matchups this season in an overtime thriller. In a do or die game, the Buffalo Bandits held off elimination with a win in Washington against the Stealth.
Acquired by Rochester weeks before the start of the 2013 season, Knighthawks’ Dan Dawson has been named Offensive Player of the Week. The former NLL MVP is currently tied for sixth in the league in assists (50) and sits 10th in points (71). Last weekend, Dawson recorded 11 points (3G, 8A) and two loose balls in Rochester’s 15-14 win in Calgary Saturday and another six points (2G, 4A) in the 14-10 loss in Edmonton Sunday.
Jordan MacIntosh has been named Transition Player of the Week recording 6 points (5G, 1A), 12 loose balls, one forced turnover, and went 22-for-31 (71%) on faceoffs in the Minnesota Swarm 17-12 win in Colorado on Saturday. Taking home this award for 3 consecutive weeks and for the fifth time this season, MacIntosh, a Team 22 Sponsored Athlete sits second in the league in loose balls (173) and fourth in faceoffs won (219).
For the second time this season Brandon Miller has been named Defensive Player of the Week. The Philadelphia Wings’ goaltender is tied for third in the NLL with seven wins this season and tied for fourth in saves (540). Last weekend Miller made 48 saves on 57 shots (.842 SV%) in the Wings’ 10-9 overtime win against the Toronto Rock.
Drafted by the Buffalo Bandits in the second round (16th overall) in the 2012 Entry Draft, Jordan Critch has been named Rookie Player of the Week. Playing in his fourth game with the Bandits, Critch recorded four points (2G, 2A) and three loose balls in Buffalo’s 15-10 win in Washington.
The NLL Player Awards are determined by a weekly vote of the league’s general managers and head coaches.
