CLax: All-Star teams

The Canadian Lacrosse League has announced the 1st and 2nd Team All-Stars for the 2013 season. Niagara Lock Monsters rookie goaltender Connor Danko and teammate Andrew Potter both earned CLax first team honours. In nine regular season games, Danko posted a 7-1 record tying the Clax single season wins record. He also finished second in the league in both goals against average (10.20 GAA) and save percentage (.809). After being selected first overall in the 2013 Clax entry draft, Potter finished second in league scoring registering 31 goals and 48 assists for 79 points.

The Ohsweken Demons also had two first team all-stars with Wayne VanEvery and Tom Montour. VanEvery broke the Clax single season goals record finishing with 41 goals and 27 assists for 68 points. In eight regular season contests, Montour averaged four points a game adding 11 goals and 21 assists for 32 points. Rounding out the first team selections were Toronto Shooting Stars Mack O’Brien and Brampton Inferno’s Ben McCullough.

O’Brien finished third in team scoring adding 26 goals and 14 assists for 40 points in 13 regular season games. McCullough appeared in nine regular season contests adding six goals and 10 assists.

Highlighting the CLax second-team are Barrie Blizzard’s Caleb Wiles (2013 Rookie of the Year), Niagara Lock Monsters Corey Fowler (2013 Clax Leading Scoring) and Iroquois Ironmen’s Chris Attwood (CLax all-time leading scorer).

Wiles finished fifth in league scoring registering 63 points including 35 goals and 28 assists in 12 regular season games. He collected 10 power play goals and led the league with seven shorthanded markers. His 35 goals was also tied for the second highest in CLax history.

Fowler played in all 14 regular season contests registering 32 goals and 48 assists for 80 points,  a new single season points record. Fowler also tied teammate Andrew Potter for a new single season assists record with 48.

Attwood finished sixth in league scoring adding 28 goals and 31 assists for 59 points in 12 games. In two seasons, Attwood is the CLax all-time leading scoring having recorded 63 goals and 67 assists for 130 career points in 24 games.

Also named to the second team were Brampton Inferno’s Jay Preece, Barrie Blizzard’s Colin Boucher and Durham TurfDogs Mitch Dumont.

Preece appeared in 11 regular season game for the Inferno posting a 6-5 record. He led the league in  minutes played (611:44) and set a new CLax single season saves record with 455. He was also fourth in both goals against average (11.77 GAA) and save percentage (.791).

After earning CLax Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, Boucher continued to be one of the league’s top defenders. This season Boucher appeared in all 14 regular season games adding three goals and five assists. For the second straight season Dumont led the TurfDogs defense, while contributing offensively with one goal and 15 helpers in 14 contests. Both Boucher and Dumont have played in all 28 games their first two seasons.
