The National Lacrosse League has announced Player of the Week awards for Week 10 of the 2013 NLL regular season which featured all seven of nine teams in four game on Friday and Saturday.
The Calgary Roughnecks have won both games this season against the Minnesota Swarm. Opening scoring for the Roughnecks at 1:28, Dane Dobbie went on to score 6 goals in Calgary’s Friday night win. Jesse Gamble scored two late goals (in addition to one early in the 2nd quarter) to secure the Toronto Rock’s win over the Colorado Mammoth, and his first career hat trick, on Friday night. Holding the Wings to only 10 goals in the Washington Stealth’s win on Saturday, goalie Tyler Richards was a major factor in the team’s first ever win in Philadelphia. In their second game of the weekend, and his first NLL career start, goalie Tye Belanger helped the Colorado Mammoth snap their 5 game losing streak by holding the Buffalo Bandits scoreless in the last 26 minutes on Saturday.
In his 6th season with the Calgary Roughnecks, Dane Dobbie has been named Offensive Player of the Week. Dobbie, who ranks second in the lead with 30 goals recorded 10 points (6G, 4A) and 1 loose ball in the Roughnecks’ 19-15 win vs. the Minnesota Swarm.
Drafted by the Toronto Rock in 2011, Jesse Gamble has been named Transition Player of the Week after his first career hat trick in the Rock’s 14-10 win vs. the Colorado Mammoth. Gamble, tied for 11th in the league for loose balls (61) scooped up 8 loose balls on Friday.
For the second time this season, Washington Stealth goaltender Tyler Richards has been named Defensive Player of the Week. Richards, who is tied for first in the league in save percentage (.807) and ranks second in goals against average (10.35), stopped 42 of the 52 shots (.808 SV%) and has 2 assists in the Stealth’s 16-10 win against the Philadelphia Wings on Saturday.
Following his first NLL career start and win, Colorado Mammoth goalie Tye Belanger has been named Rookie Player of the Week. Belanger was added to the Mammoth’s active roster from the Physicall from the Physically Unable to Perform list when Matt Roik was released in February. Belanger (2GP, 1W, 8.57GAA, .790 SV%) has 15 saves on 21 shots replacing Dan Lewis in Colorado’s 14-10 loss on Friday and 30 saves on 36 shots in the 12-6 win at Buffalo on Saturday.
The NLL Player Awards are determined by a weekly vote of the league’s general managers and head coaches.
