Buffalo GM Dietrich trades 2015 draft pick to Toronto for playing rights to … himself

Part of the job description for the general manager of a National Lacrosse League team is to make trades, then inform the players who have been traded. Buffalo Bandits GM Steve Dietrich did that this week with Jimmy Purves and Scott Self, both of whom were traded to the Rochester Knighthawks in separate deals. But then the NLL Hall of Fame goalie had to inform himself that his playing rights with the Toronto Rock had been traded to the Bandits in exchange for a 2015 sixth-round entry draft pick. The move gives the Bandits a third goalie should anything happen to starter Anthony Cosmo and backup Kurtis Wagar. And the Rock get a draft pick while standing pat with a team GM Terry Sanderson says he’s confident with heading down the stretch. It’s surely one of the more interesting trades in NLL history and here’s hoping Chugger had the decency to inform himself of the trade in person and not via text or email. That’s so impersonal.
