Jordan McBride had a hat trick and Tye Belanger shut out the Bandits for the final 26 minutes to lead the Colorado Mammoth to a 12-6 National Lacrosse League win in Buffalo last night. Belanger stopped 30 of the 36 shots he faced to earn his first win in his first career start. Buffalo actually jumped out to a 3-0 lead and were ahead 6-4 after Nick Cotter scored at the 3:43 mark of the third quarter. That was the last time that Belanger would be beaten, however, and the Mammoth offence got on a roll.
McBride and Jamie Lincoln, with his second of two goals on the night, evened things up by the end of the third. Colorado then ran the table, scoring the only 6 goals of the fourth quarter. The Mammoth had also had a dominant second quarter, outscoring Buffalo 4-1 while outshooting the Bandits 19-9. It’s tough to lay much of the blame for the loss on Bandits goalie Anthony Cosmo since the Mammoth outshot Buffalo 60-37 for the full game.
Three Mammoth players had 5-point games. John Grant, Jr. and Cameron Holding each scored once and added 4 assists while Sean Pollock contributed 5 assists. Dhane Smith was the lone Bandit to record more than 1 goal, firing home a pair.
Washington went on a 9-1 tear to close out the first half to handle Philadelphia 16-10 in the other NLL game last night. Both Rhys Duch and Lewis Ratcliff had huge games for the Stealth. Duch scored 5 goals and Ratcliff 4 while each added 3 assists. Tyler Richards stopped 42 of the 52 shots he faced to earn the win. Drew Westervelt and Paul Rabil each scored twice and Kevin Crowley had 4 assists in the losing effort for the Wings.
