The ILIndoor crew enters Week 8 of the 2013 season still in pretty tight competition in the NLL Fantasy Lacrosse battle. Teddy “Chewbacca” Jenner is still on top of the So Called Insiders league with 687 points. Ty Pilson isn’t too far behind with 657 big ones, and Bob Chavez is in the hunt too, with 647. Rounding out the pack is Casey Vock (636), Stephen Stamp (620) and Marty O’Neill (618).
This weekend marks the half-way point of the season, and by now, it’s pretty clear which teams are clicking and which teams are tending to struggle a little bit more on the floor. But the choices haven’t gotten any easier for the 3,100+ fantasy participants, especially this weekend, as the Toronto Rock do not play, removing a bunch of great options from the fantasy pool. But here’s a few names to consider for Week 8.Guys to Consider
Mark Matthews, F, Edmonton Rush, $19 – Price tag is very appropriate here as this kid’s averaging 20 points per game and looking like a veteran in the process. Matthews is meeting expectations, and on any given night, he’s shown he can produce points with the league’s best. Just so happens he’s not quite as expensive as some of the guys producing points like this.
Scott Ranger, F, Calgary Roughnecks, $17 – His 6-goal, 2-assist night against Minnesota shows us how “dangerous” he can be on any given night. That’s the best game he’s had, and it might be a sign that this hard-working guy is getting into a rhythm. We know the Riggers are going to put up goals, and with Ranger having a hot hand last weekend, he could be in line for another nice outing in Week 8.
Dane Dobbie, F, Calgary Roughnecks, $21 – Earlier this year, I pointed Dobbie out as a guy to wait on, wondering if he was going to pump in goals like he has in recent seasons after a late start. With two games less than his teammates, Dobbie’s still got the second-most points on the team, and is tied with Curtis Dickson for the lead in goals. Give him a look this weekend.
Cory Vitarelli, F, Rochester Knighthawks, $16 - This guy’s a human highlight reel in the indoor world, and his fantasy point totals have him standing out for a guy who is only $16 bucks. When you move down the list and see the price drop but the point totals so high, it’s a good sign. VitDog has averaged more than 14 points an outing, and still seems a bit undervalued, but yet he seems to be one of the most consistent guys on the Khawks roster outside of Jammer, DDD and CP.
Kevin Ross, F, Philadelphia Wings, $17 – With the exception of Philly’s first game, Ross has put up good numbers each week, and he’s only a few points behind Kevin Crowley, who leads the team. But Ross is the guy less people talk about, yet he’s doing a lot of important things on the left side for Philly. His consistence makes him a nice option, especially with him having two opportunities in Week 8.
