It’s a battle of opposing forces oddly appropriate for the circumstances in this afternoon’s Canadian Lacrosse League game. With both of last night’s CLax game’s postponed because of winter storm Nemo, the Barrie Blizzard will be trying to win one for the snowy crowd. The Blizzard are 0-2 in their brief existence as an expansion franchise. Judging by team nicknames, this could be a challenging one for them, though, as Barrie is heading into the home of the 1-2 Brampton Inferno. The hosts were supposed to welcome the Iroquois Ironmen last night. The storm may prove a bit of a break for the Inferno as they won’t have to worry about the fatigue of a day game after a night game.
What they do have to worry about is getting their defence on track. Brampton has allowed 16, 14 and 21 goals in their three games. The good news is that the offence has been clicking the past couple of games; they posted 15 goals to edge the Oshweken Demons 15-14 then put up 16 in a loss to the Niagara Lock Monsters last week, getting scorched for 21 by the Monsters in the game.
Things started out in promising fashion for the Blizzard, dropping a tight 13-12 decision to the defending champion Ohsweken Demons in their opening game. Their next outing didn’t go as well, though. They fell behind early and never got back into what turned out to be an 18-10 loss to the Toronto Shooting Stars.
Game time today at Brampton’s Powerade Centre is 2 pm. There were some problems with the internet because of yesterday’s storm, but if the arena’s signal is working the game will be available via live webcast through JVI Video. If the internet is down, the game will be posted to JVI’s archives for viewing later.Stamp is a TV sports announcer and lacrosse lover whose skill set made him a defender but who always dreamed of being a goal-scorer.
