The Syracuse Stingers are set to play an exhibition lacrosse game against the Lacrosse All-Stars from New York City on Feb. 21. Where that leads from there is anyone’s guess, but the Stingers are hoping it takes them to permanent status as a pro team. Neal Powless, the former National Lacrosse League player who also played for the Iroquois Nationals, is the man behind the Stingers, who played a handful of exhibition games last fall against teams from the Professional Lacrosse League. The game against the All-Stars will be played at the War Memorial in Syracuse with a faceoff time scheduled for 7 p.m. The Stingers are comprised of players mostly from the Syracuse area and for last year’s exhibition games used a lot of Senior B players from the nearby Onondaga Redhawks.Chavez is an avid lacrosse player in Rochester and a journalist for the Democrat and Chronicle as well as a longtime Inside Lacrosse contributor.
