We’re back! Don’t even pretend for a minute that you didn’t miss us. Back for a sixth season is the ILIndoor Girl of the Week competition and judging by the numbers of seasons past, you readers are big fans. The concept here is pretty basic: We’ve petitioned each dance team in the National Lacrosse League to nominate a couple of dancers each and we’ve created a bracket, tournament style. Each week, we present to you 2 NLL girls and readers vote on which they like best. The woman with the most votes moves on. And yeah, the mug shots here are a teaser to bigger photos you can see after clicking the “read more” button. We’re sneaky like that. Kicking it off for the 2013 season is Chelsea of the Buffalo Bandettes and Jacq of the Calgary Drill Crew.
As we move along, you’ll probably notice that there are no members of the Minnesota Swarm dance team involved in this, the biggest reason being that the Swarm have elected to not field a dance team this season. It’s rather unfortunate, because we like to have a true representation of North American dance team members involved with this, but it looks like the women of Minnesota won’t be a part of it this season and fingers are crossed for their return in 2014. That said, onward.
Chelsea is in her fourth season with the Bandettes and her goals in life are modest, according to the profile of her at Bandits.com. She wants to travel the world, be successful, get married and have a healthy and happy family. That’s not asking for too much, right? Of course not. Of course, part of her current happiness comes from being part of a dance team that performs to a packed house for each NLL game that’s played in Buffalo.
Outside of what she does with the Bandettes, Chelsea is working hard as a radiologic technoligist. And to save you a trip to Wikipedia, that’s someone who does X-rays and the sort. Ultimately, she wants to return to school to find work as a physician’s assistant. She’s a fan of Rent, lobster, “50 Shades of Grey” and the color purple. The color, not the movie.
Across the continent, Jacq comes to the Drill Crew out of her hometown of Calgary. She’s a dance instructor and an independent consultant for Arbonne, a cosmetics company. Like just about any other dance team member out there, she’s got two reasons for doing what she does with the Drill Crew: friendships and fans. “These girls are incredible human beings with an abundance of amazing qualities to offer the world,” she says on her profile at DrillCrew.ca. “My second favorite is the feeling of dancing in front of the fans. The support of the crowd is an insanely wonderful feeling!”
Jacq is a fan of the movie Moulin Rouge and says her TV time is spent with The Mentalist, Nashville, Rules of Engagement and How I Met Your Mother. The trip to Mexico with her Drill Crew teammates ranks as the top vacation of her life and she’s hoping the girls can make a trip to Europe together at some point.
And if you happen to be driving around Calgary, make sure you’re at least doing the speed limit AND using your turn signal. If she’s caught driving behind and you’re not doing either, you just might see any of the 4 words she lists on her profile to describe herself: Stubborn, Optimistic, Lively and Creative. That’s a list that covers quite a bit of ground.
And so there you have it, our first 2 contestants for our 2013 NLL Girl of the Week contest. Get your vote in today and we’ll be back next Tuesday with the next round.
