The Green Gaels are pleased to announce that the return of Head Coach Jason Crosbie, and Assistant Coaches Joel Johnson and Brad MacArthur for the 2013 Ontario Lacrosse Association Junior B Lacrosse Season.
After two seasons with a combined regular season record of 36 – 2 – 2, the staff is returning for their third season together behind the Gaels bench and is expecting to improve their playoff fortunes. The Gaels have been eliminated in the Eastern Conference finals each of the past two seasons.
The coaching staff is excited to get the summer started again. With Green Gaels conditioning camps starting up in March, plans are already underway with regards to the 2013 season.
The Green Gaels are expecting a large roster turnover in 2013 and Assistant Coach Brad MacArthur is already looking forward to the conditioning sessions and training camps to establish some stability.
“The fact we are losing some key pieces and with so many spots open, it would be nice to see some kids come into camp with the attitude that they are going to force us to give them a spot on our club” says MacArthur. “Conditioning needs to be a key factor. It is important that athletes recognize that they need to come into camp in shape. Part of the decision making process for the coaching staff is looking to see who came to camp prepared, which is why we hold conditioning camps prior to main camp. It gives the kids a chance to be seen, not evaluated at that point.”
In charge of the Green Gaels offense, Assistant Coach Joel Johnson agrees with MacArthur.
“Looking at the large turnover of graduating players from the 2012 season, roster spots will be hard fought battles throughout camp. Players coming to camp need to be in shape, both mentally and physically” according to Johnson. “Players need to come to camp hungry to take one of the available spots and show us they deserve to be there.”
The start of the 2013 season has been pushed back a week which gives the Green Gaels more opportunity to evaluate talent and bond as a team before the season begins. But for Head Coach Jason Crosbie, he can’t wait for the season to begin.
“I am always excited for the start of the season and the hunt for another Founders Cup National Championship” says Crosbie. “The fans of this exceptional organization deserve another Founders Cup because of their never ending support and commitment to this community based team.”
After a strong 2012 season, Green Gaels General Manager Paul Chamois is pleased to have the trio returning for their third season.
We are thrilled to have Jason, Brad, and Joel back for 2013. Having stability behind the bench is always a positive heading into a season with so much turnover on the roster. Losing seven players to age, and potentially a few more to the Whitby Warriors Junior A team, having the best coaching staff in the Junior B loop to lead our returning players and help develop our rookies will be key to a successful 2013 season.”
The Gaels also expect to have their training and physio-therapy staff return for the 2013 season.
