As it turns out, Sunday’s showdown for first place in the North American Lacrosse League was a mismatch. At least from halftime onward. Battling to a 7-7 tie at the break, the Boston Rockhoppers scored 9 unanswered goals in the third quarter and went on to post a 20-9 win over the Baltimore Bombers to take sole possession of first place in the 4-team league. Mike Stone (Middlebury) scored 3 goals in the third quarter as part of Boston’s 9-0 run in the third. The Rockhoppers improve to 3-1 with 2 of those wins coming on the road. Sunday’s win avenged their only loss of the season, a 1-goal home loss to Baltimore on Jan. 12.
