It’s been a while since the Calgary Roughnecks were staring at a 0-2 hole at the start of the season. They were in such a predicament at the start of the 2008 and 2005 seasons but the surprising aspect of this season’s funk is that both of Calgary’s losses this season have come at home. Then again, is it really that surprising? The Riggers lost their first 2 home games last season and were 2-2 before going 9-3 down the stretch and that included winning 8 of 9 games. Still, new Calgary coach Curt Malawsky says the team’s upcoming 3 straight road games may be just what his team needs. “It’s definitely a character check,” Malawsky told the Calgary Herald. “I know exactly where we sit and I know the character we have in the room. I know what we’re going to do next game; we’re going to be better all the way around, but we have to clean up the little mistakes.” The first game of the trip is Friday at the Colorado Mammoth, the team that rallied to win in Calgary just last weekend.Chavez is an avid lacrosse player in Rochester and a journalist for the Democrat and Chronicle as well as a longtime Inside Lacrosse contributor.
