Buffalo Bandits defenseman Billy Dee Smith served his 2-game suspension to start the National Lacrosse League season, but now he may be on the shelf. Bandits coach Darris Kilgour on Wednesday said Smith injured his ankle at work and may be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list, meaning he wouldn’t be available for Saturday night’s game at the Rochester Knighthawks. Kilgour described the injury as a high ankle sprain, which slowed him down in practice Tuesday night. So if the ankle doesn’t show improvement before Saturday’s game, the team will put him on the PUP list. The Bandits are 1-1 after losing their road opener to Philadelphia on Friday, but returned to Buffalo on Saturday to defeat the Minnesota Swarm in their home opener.Chavez is an avid lacrosse player in Rochester and a journalist for the Democrat and Chronicle as well as a longtime Inside Lacrosse contributor.
