The collective sigh of relief heard around 10 p.m. Saturday night here on the East Coast was the sound of National Lacrosse League fans ending their wait. The 2013 season was finally underway with the Rochester Knighthawks playing at the Washington Stealth. And although Knighthawks fan was disappointed and Stealth fan was no doubt pleased with the 13-12 Washington win, the fact of the matter is that these teams got it all started and next week, the rest of the NLL gets to join the party. But before we do that, let’s get your take on who you think is the MVP of Saturday’s game.
Cliff Smith was brought into Washington to help the big gunners, but did anyone forsee 3 goals, all in the first half? We knew Joe Walters had a solid summer in Brampton after rolling with a bit of momentum from late in the 2012 NLL season, and his 2-2 game on Saturday looks like he might still be on the go.
Tyler Richards was strong in the Washington net; same for Matt Vinc in Rochester’s. Athan Iannucci scored the winner for Washington in the closing moments, but Jonny Powless (2-3) and Cody Jamieson (1-4) each put up their points for Rochester. And we can’t leave out Cory Vitarelli (3-0), can we?
And then, of course, Rhys Duch was Rhys Duch with a 3-3 game for the Stealth, who were very, very eager to get 2013 started on the right foot after the nightmare of 2012.
And this is the part where we ask you what we’ve already asked, but need a nice transition into the button-pushing part of this whole exercise. So, go ahead and do what you do.
