ILIndoor has learned that defender Eric Martin, released 2 days ago by the Washington Stealth, will sign a contract with the Colorado Mammoth to be placed on the team’s practice squad. Martin, a second-round draft pick of the Stealth in 2004, is the franchise’s all-time leader in loose balls (848) and penalty minutes (401). The native of Norfolk, Va., has built a reputation in the game for his physical style of play that brings heavy checks with both stick and body. He’d been an integral part of a Stealth run that saw the team win the NLL’s Champion’s Cup in 2010 and then make a return trip to the title game in 2011, where they lost to Toronto. His arrival in Colorado will add even more depth to a unit that is boosted by the return of Mac Allen, who missed 13 games last year with an injury.Chavez is an avid lacrosse player in Rochester and a journalist for the Democrat and Chronicle as well as a longtime Inside Lacrosse contributor.
