The cutting season has begun, and among the first to receive notice is veteran forward Jeff Zywicki, who was among the nine players released on Tuesday by the Washington Stealth. Zywicki played for the Stealth organization for seven seasons after being the team’s first pick (No. 8 overall) in the 2005 National Lacrosse League entry draft. “Re-tooling our offense for the future is a challenging process,” Stealth GM Doug Locker said in a statement. “Days like this are obviously very difficult. We are thankful for all that Jeff has given to this organization.” Also released by the Stealth are forwards Martin Cummings, Peter Jacobs, Jerome Thompson and Mark Negrin, transition players T.J. Cowx and Ryan Johnson, defender Ben McCullough and goalie Chris Seidel. Final cuts to determine the 23-man active roster along with 3 practice-roster players are due to the league on Thursday.Chavez is an avid lacrosse player in Rochester and a journalist for the Democrat and Chronicle as well as a longtime Inside Lacrosse contributor.
