The Swarm love to get their players out in the local media and Callum Crawford digs his fantasy football. What better combination, then, than Crawford appearing as the guest picker in the Minnesota Star Tribune’s Fantasy Football Challenge? Crawford appears as the Week 14 guest to face Star Tribune columnist Michael Rand. The way the challenge works, the guest gets to pick any quarterback, receiver and running back they want while Rand has to pick players at each position from outside the NFL.com’s top 10. Rand is doing pretty well, trailing just 7-6 on the season despite the handicap. Crawford looks like he’s in pretty good shape with his choices of QB Matt Ryan, WR Victor Cruz and RB Doug Martin. It looks like fun, so I’m going to jump in and play along after the jump.
I’ll take Peyton Manning at QB: the Broncos are my favourite team, he’s been brilliant the second half of the season and the Raiders have given up 315 points this year. That’s a recipe for a big passing day for Manning.
At RB I like both their picks. Tampa back Martin has a good chance to shred the Eagles disintegrating defence and Shonne Green, as Rand puts it, is the Jets “best (only) offensive” weapon against the Jaguars. But I’m pretty happy to pick Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch to run roughshod over an Arizona club that has gotten worse and worse as the year has gone on.
Again, both choices at WR are sound. Cruz and Wes Welker could be in for big days. I’m going to put my money on the biggest day, though, going to Texans stud Andre Johnson against a New England Patriots D that has been allowing 280 yards per game. Feel free to join the fun and see if you can beat Crawford, Rand and me.Stamp is a TV sports announcer and lacrosse lover whose skill set made him a defender but who always dreamed of being a goal-scorer.
