There are about 31 days until the National Lacrosse League opens its season with the Jan. 5 game between the Rochester Knighthawks and Washington Stealth. But there are 3 NLL guys who will have to wait a bit longer than that to get their season started, and it’s not just because their teams are scheduled to play their first games of the season on the following weekend. It’s not exactly breaking news here, but it is worth the reminder that the Minnesota Swarm will be without transition man Andrew Suitor for the first 2 games of the season. Additionally, the Buffalo Bandits won’t have Billy Dee Smith and the Calgary Roughnecks will be minus Dane Dobbie, each for 1 game. The trio was suspended by the NLL for separate incidents in playoff games. Suitor’s infraction occurred vs. Edmonton on May 12 and Dobbie’s also was against the Rush, on May 5. Smith’s incident took place on may 5 against Toronto. All 3 players can appeal the suspensions but haven’t yet, as far as ILIndoor is aware.Chavez is an avid lacrosse player in Rochester and a journalist for the Democrat and Chronicle as well as a longtime Inside Lacrosse contributor.
