Fan Poll: The best player NOT in the NLL, on to the quarter-finals

Top seed Jesse Guerin

The quarter final round of this contest to select the best player who is not currently an NLLer includes four guys who are in the process of trying to make themselves ineligible for the poll. Jesse Guerin is at camp with the Minnesota Swarm, Scotty Komer is trying out for the Philadelphia Wings, Ian Poole is hoping to crack the roster of the Colorado Mammoth and Jerome Thompson is fighting for a spot with the Washington Stealth. We won’t kick anyone out, though, especially given that rosters won’t be finalized till shortly after you’ve made your final choice. Today the quarter-finals kick off with three of the four guys in NLL camps taking part.

Last week, Dylan Llord knocked out Ben McCullough and Ryan Hotaling pulled off the upset over Ryan Campbell. Make the jump to decide who are the first pair of semi-finalists.

Jesse Guerin (1) vs Scotty Komer (9)

Guerin has put up 55 goals and 110 assists for 165 points in 50 Major Series Lacrosse games over the past three summers with Ajax. His challenge in the NLL will be being effective without the ball in his stick, which it is all the time with the Rock but clearly won’t be when he’s on the floor with Ryan Benesch, Callum Crawford and Kiel Matisz. Speaking of the Swarm’s big number 3 overall draft pick, Guerin has outscored Matisz by 80 points over those three MSL summers.

Komer led CLax last year with a .797 save percentage. He’s a tall, athletic goalie who moves well in the crease. His stint with Reading of the PLL was cut short when his head was driven into the crossbar when he was run over just two minutes into his debut, but Komer has recovered from the concussion and is ready for his shot at the big time.

Brad Favero (4) vs Ian Poole (5)

Favero tied for the CLax lead in goals last year with 35 in 14 games. He’s a hard-working lefty forward with an accurate outside shot who can create chances for himself and others.

Poole is a solid defender and good faceoff guy who had an excellent Mann Cup with the Langley Thunder. He downed Travis Bland in the first round and now steps up to face an even more potent offensive force in Favero.
