National Lacrosse League training camps across North America will see plenty of familiar faces this weekend. Some under contract, some not. Goalie Matt Flindell is one of those without a contract but he’s hoping that status doesn’t last much longer as he is in Calgary with the Roughnecks this weekend. The Victoria Shamrocks goalie is no stranger to the NLL, but hasn’t played in the league since the Portland LumberJax folded in 2009. “Contracts aren’t guaranteed, but I’m going to camp to battle for a backup spot,” Flindell told the Times Colonist in Victoria. “I’m super excited to go to camp, excited and a bit nervous.” Count Victoria GM Chris Welch among the fans hoping Flindell finds his way back to the NLL. “Flinner’s played there before. He hasn’t had good luck getting back in there, but hopefully this opportunity will be the right one.”
