Toronto Rock General Manager Terry Sanderson has announced the addition of Dave Pym as Western Canadian Scout. Pym was most recently the head coach of the Calgary Roughnecks who finished 2012 with the best regular season record in the NLL.
The former Calgary bench boss was an assistant to Rock head coach Troy Cordingley, also standing alongside Sanderson, in 2009 with a Roughnecks squad that captured the Champion’s Cup. Cordingley left the Roughnecks after that season to take on his current role with Toronto, Pym assumed the Calgary head coaching duties prior to the 2010 campaign.
“Dave knows the type of player that fits our needs and can thrive and prosper in our system,” said Sanderson. “He will be a real asset to us moving forward and compliments our staff in a real positive way.”
During his three seasons as head coach in Calgary, Pym had an impressive 33-15 record capturing two regular season Western Divison crowns. In the summer, he stays close to the game as the assistant coach of the Okotoks Raiders of the Alberta Junior A Lacrosse League.
Pym will be responsible for scouting talent in the Western Canadian summer leagues in British Columbia and Alberta in preparation for the annual NLL Entry Draft. Additionally, he will scout the NLL’s Western Division for the Rock.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity,” said Pym. “I’m thoroughly ecstatic to get another chance to work with Terry and Troy. It’s a real good fit and I’m really looking forward to working with two guys that share a lot of the same values I have when it comes to the game and the type of players that make a team successful.”
