Rockets forward Jesse Guerin scored six of Reading’s twelve goals on Friday night against the Charlotte Copperheads, but Matt Hickman scored six of his own as the Snakes continued their mastery of the Rockets, winning 16-12.
Guerin, who finished with eight points, began the second quarter with a diving behind-the-back goal on Tory Stevens. Fellow Canadian and Rockets leading scorer Travis Bland chipped in eight points of his own, with a goal and seven assists. Dan Deckelbaum added a pair of goals and a pair of assists, while Brendan Muise was credited with five assists. Colton Vosburgh, and Linden Stevens had the other Rockets goals.
Hickman continued to pester the Rockets as the diminutive forward provided the bulk of the Copperheads offense in the first half, netting a pair in the first quarter and adding three more in the second. Through three games against Reading, Hickman has scored twelve goals. The Rockets again made a game of it in the first half, only to fade in the second half. Charlotte outscored Reading 9-5 in the second half to notch their third consecutive win against the Rockets.
“Obviously, we’re a frustrated team right now. We’ve been in each game and dominated the first half of two of them,’ said Head Coach Tom Slate. “It’s a game of runs and we need to produce more than we give up. Credit Charlotte for executing their game plan. They’ve been playing together for a while now and it shows.”
The Rockets auctioned off their special Military jerseys after the game, and two time Flyers Stanley Cup winner Bill Clement was on hand to handle the ceremonial faceoff duties. The team returns to the Launch pad on Saturday, November 17th to take on the Syracuse Stingers. It’s Autism Awareness Night at the Sovereign Center as the Rockets raise money and awareness for local chapters of Autism Speaks.
