The Junior A Nanaimo Timbermen earlier this week announced they were parting ways with coach Dale Nicks and on Thursday, they introduced their new coach in Brad Dougan. The former Senior Timbermen defenseman, who played his Junior A ball with Victoria and played in the 2004 Minto Cup finals, says he’s ready for the challenge coaching a team that went 3-17-1 last year and missed the BCJALL playoffs. “I want to put my heart and soul into this team and get this thing turned around,” he told the Nanaimo News Bulletin. Dougan has been an assistant coach with the Senior Timbermen and formerly coached the Intermediate team, so he’s reuniting with players he’s coached before. “I think they need to work harder, do the little things better,” he said. “There’s tons of stick skill on that team, that’s for sure.”Chavez is an avid lacrosse player in Rochester and a journalist for the Democrat and Chronicle as well as a longtime Inside Lacrosse contributor.
