Buffalo Bandits to host open tryout for free agent players, plus links for other NLL news

Think you’re good enough and tough enough to crack the Buffalo Bandits’ roster. The National Lacrosse League team invites you to find out. The team is hosting an open tryout for free agents on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the First Niagara Center. Making the announcement on the team website, the Bandits are limiting registration to the first 44 approved applicants, with 40 runners and 4 goaltenders. The tryout will include 2 sessions, one running from 10 a.m. to noon and the other from 2 to 4 p.m. with lunch provided during the break. If you’re interested, contact Bandits GM Steve Dietrich or Bandits Director of Lacrosse Operations Scott Loffler through the team’s website. And be prepared to submit your lax resume, your medical history and sign an NLL Participation Waver.

Every team looks to add an impact player, or two, when they draft and the Minnesota Swarm did that in this year’s entry draft when they picked 6-foot-6 Brock Sorensen and 6-foot-5 Kiel Matisz. “They’ve got size, they’ve both got a mean streak, and they can move. You put those three things together and you’ve really got the full package,” said Swarm coach Joe Sullivan. (Minnesota Swarm) … The Toronto Rock have signed 5 of their 7 entry draft picks, along with veteran forward Dan Carey. All signed 1-year deals, leaving just a pair of third-round picks (Kyle Pereira and Kyle Belton) unsigned. (Toronto Rock) … Tyler Burton and Jamie Batson did it. Why not you? The Knighthawks are hosting an open tryout, much like the sessions that landed Burton and Batson with the reigning NLL champs. Rochester’s session is Oct. 26-27 at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Hagersville, Ontario. (Rochester Knighthawks) … Count the Washington Stealth among the NLL teams also hosting a free agent tryout, with theirs scheduled for Nov. 17-18. The Nov. 17 sessions is at Soccer First in Arlington, Wash., and the tryout on the 18th is at Comcast Arena. You can check out the entire preseason schedule for the Stealth at their website.
