The Whitby Warriors played fantastic lacrosse in the regular season. Made trades to make that fantastic play even better. But when it came down to crunch time, the Warriors couldn’t flip that switch. And now they won’t get a chance to defend their Minto Cup title as the Orangeville Northmen and Coquitlam Adanacs go on without the Warriors, starting tonight in the best-of-3 finals. Worse yet, the finals are on Whitby’s floor, so the Warriors will be in the uncomfortable position of being spectators in their own barn. “We didn’t have enough and I’ll say it again about the switch being turned off for a while,” Whitby coach Derek Keenan told DurhamRegion.com. “It was time to turn the switch back on and we did at times, but not consistently enough.”Chavez is an avid lacrosse player in Rochester and a journalist for the Democrat and Chronicle as well as a longtime Inside Lacrosse contributor.
