Delta Islanders ride hot start and hot goalie to series-tying win

So much for any idea the Delta Islanders were just happy to be in their first BCJALL finals and would be easy fodder for the Coquitlam Adanacs. Delta rode a 5-0 first period and 54 saves by Peter Dubenski to a 10-8 win in Game 2 of the BC championship and a 1-1 tie in the series. Logan Schuss and Mike Mallory (who just re-signed with the Washington Stealth) were the leaders on offence once again for the Islanders. Schuss scored four times and added two assists while Mallory had a hat trick and four assists. Delta actually extended their lead to 7-0 with a pair of goals from Schuss to open the second period. From there on it was mostly Coquitlam; the Adanacs outscored Delta 8-3 the rest of the way at Delta’s Sun God Arena.

The Adanacs could not, however, solve Dubenski often enough to come back for the win. Cole Shafer and Robert Church each scored twice for Coquitlam, who outshot Delta 62-42 for the game. The third game in the series is back in Coquitlam Monday night. The winner advances to the Minto Cup in Whitby August 18-26.
