Minnesota swings deals with Buffalo, Edmonton to obtain No. 3 overall draft pick

Jordan MacIntosh was one of many rookies making an immediate impact with the Swarm in 2012.
In 2011, the Minnesota Swarm had two first round draft picks and used those picks to select Jordan MacIntosh and Evan Kirk, two rookies who had immediate impact in the National Lacrosse League. They were joined by a handful of other rookies, creating one of the best young cores in the league. Many questioned if all that youth was too much and wondered how competitive the Swarm would be. They were proven wrong as the Swarm hosted the West final and on some nights dressed 7 to 8 rookies. In 2012, the Swarm’s youth movement will have a year of experience under its belt but now, it will also have even more rookies. After deals with Edmonton and Buffalo, the Swarm are the holders of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th overall picks in this year’s entry draft.
With the consensus knowing that the Rush will select Mark Matthews first overall, the Swarm are in an enviable position with the ability to draft three players in row making sure they can fill all their holes.
Expect them to take Brock Sorenson with one of those picks, Shayne Jackson with another but that third straight pick could be a tossup based on what the Swarm feel they need most to help them get beyond that West final game. One thing’s for sure, Neverland will have to expand its walls ’cause there’s a few more new faces about to join the ranks and that makes the Swarm even scarier than last year.
