Edmonton Rush GM and Head Coach Derek Keenan didn’t have any trade deadline activity to talk about when he appeared on Boxla Beat this evening, but he did slide in a bombshell by announcing the signing of legendary defender Steve Toll, pending league approval. Toll last played in 2011 with the Colorado Mammoth but was released by the team prior to the start of this season. It was speculated that he had retired, and he did in fact announce on Boxla Beat that he was done with playing and focused on his role as the Director of Operations with the Oshawa Machine and Durham Turfdogs of CLax. He never filed his retirement papers, though, and the itch to get back on the floor has obviously proved to be too strong. Keenan says the addition of Toll will help give his young defensive players some veteran presence and will help on the penalty kill, where Toll is considered among the best ever.
