Five Rochester Knighthawks arrested after late night incident at Minnesota TGI Fridays
Not exactly the news the National Lacrosse League was looking for as the season moves forward in what is one of the tightest years in history. Earlier today Il Indoor was informed of an incident that took place late Sunday night, early Monday morning at a TGI Friday restaurant in Bloomington, Minnesota. After contacting the Bloomington Police Department, they were able to confirm that an incident did occur and it did involve members of the Rochester Knighthawks lacrosse club. It appears that some of the players had gone to the establishment after their game with the Minnesota Swarm, when they engaged in a verbal altercation with other patrons. As things heated up, menus, glasses and cutlery were thrown and then an all-out brawl ensued involving over 30 people, causing upwards of $1600 in damages to the restaurant.
Rochester Knighthawks’ President Lewis Staats, who has been in contact with the NLL, issued the following statement: “According to media accounts, up to 30 people were involved in an altercation at a TGI Fridays in Bloomington, Minnesota on Monday. According to those same media accounts, up to seven people were taken into custody after the altercation. We can confirm that five of the people taken into custody were Rochester Knighthawk players. The five players appeared in court (Tuesday) and are on their way home. We are conducting our own investigation of the incident. As there is now an ongoing legal proceeding, we will not be issuing any further comment at this time.”
The five players involved were, Cody Jamieson, Sid Smith, Jordan Hall, Travis Hill and Tyler Burton. According to Sal Maiorana of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, “Smith was charged with one count of gross misdemeanor, obstructing the legal process; gross misdemeanor, obstructing the legal process with force; and misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Hill and Jamieson were charged with both of the misdemeanor obstruction charges, and Hall and Burton were charged with misdemeanor, obstructing the legal process, and disorderly conduct.”
Obviously this is a very serious situation so we will stay on the story but for now the situation is in the hands of the Bloomington Police Department and we will update you as more information comes to light.
