The Brampton Inferno stayed perfect on the young season with a 13-9 home win over the Ohsweken Demons in Canadian Lacrosse League play last night, while the Durham Turfdogs dumped the Iroquois Ironment 19-10 in Hagersville. Dan Williams and Ben McCullough had hat tricks for Brampton and Rob Blasdell made his CLax debut to earn the win in net for the Inferno. The game was close throughout. Chris Courtney’s shorthanded marker pulled Ohsweken to within a goal at 10-9 at 6:23 of the fourth quarter. Brampton pulled away with three unanswered goals in the final five minutes, including McCullough’s penalty shot marker with just nine seconds to play.

Chris Attwood was again a force for the Demons, scoring five goals for the second straight contest and leaping to the top of the scoring charts with a total of 14 points over two games. He scored three goals in 59 seconds early in the second quarter to give the Demons their first lead and had the first two goals of the third quarter to put them ahead again. Lack of discipline cost Ohsweken. While they gave up only two power play goals on 14 Inferno man advantages, they spent an awful lot of time shorthanded.

The Turfdogs used a huge third period to pull away from the Ironmen, blanking Iroquois 7-0 in the quarter. Connor Daly, Scott DeFrancesco and Aaron Grayson were the top guns for Durham. Daly had three goals and four assists, DeFrancesco four and two and Grayson two goals and four helpers. Mitch Nanticoke, Marty Hill and Dwayne Porter had a pair of goals each for the Ironmen, while Gewas Schindler returned to competitive lacrosse and chipped in with four assists.

All six CLax teams are in action tonight. Brampton and Peel meet in the first Battle of Brampton at the Powerade Centre at 7pm. Iroquois takes on the Oshawa Machine at the GM Centre is the first game of a doubleheader, followed by Ohsweken at Durham in a game that can be heard live on the Lacrosse Radio Network.
