The Ohsweken Demons have earned two of the three honours as the Canadian Lacrosse League announced its first ever Stars of the Week. Selections are made by a vote among CLax’s general managers. Demons’ goalie Ben VanEvery was named top defensive player and teammate Chris Attwood topped the offensive end. Transition Player of the Week was Mark Farthing of the Brampton Inferno. Attwood had five goals and three assists to lead Ohsweken to a 13-9 win over the Oshawa Machine. The Machine’s Brad Levick, who had three goals and three assists in the loss, received honourable mention on offense along with Dylan Llord, who had three goals and four assists as the Inferno dumped the Iroquois Ironmen 18-11.

VanEvery made 45 saves and created numerous transition chances with his down-floor passing for the Demons. Honourable mentions went to Peel Avengers goalie Scotty Komer and Kyle Andrews of Brampton. Farthing had a hat trick for the Avengers and played a strong two-way game. Brice Queener’s pair of goals and an assist for Peel and Clay Hill’s defensive prowess and pair of assists earned them transition honourable mentions.

Deputy Commissioner Jim Veltman will conduct youth development clinics at the Powerade Centre in Brampton this Saturday for players under 16. Veltman, along with CLax coaches and pro players, held similar clinics before the exhibition tripleheader at Oshawa’s GM Centre in December. Clinics run from 9-3:30 for U10, U13 and U16 groups. Full details are available at the CLax web site.

CLax has a busy weekend coming up, with five games between Friday and Saturday. Brampton plays host to Ohsweken in a battle of unbeatens at the Powerade Centre while the winless Durham Turfdogs and Ironmen meet at the ILA in Hagersville on Friday. Both games start at 8 pm. Saturday night features the first Battle of Brampton as the Avengers and Inferno face off at the Powerade Centre at 7 pm. In Oshawa, the Ironmen take on the Machine at 4 pm and the Demons visit the Turfdogs at 7 pm in a General Motors Centre doubleheader.

The Demons/Turfdogs tilt will be available via live webcast on the Lacrosse Radio Network with Matthew Caruk doing play by play and Stephen Stamp providing colour commentary.

Stamp is a TV sports announcer and lacrosse lover whose skill set made him a defender but who always dreamed of being a goal-scorer
