IL Indoor has learned that Buffalo has traded defender Chris Corbeil to the Edmonton Rush. In return the Bandits will receive the ninth pick in this year’s entry draft and a first-round pick in next year’s draft. It is not yet clear whether the pick next year is Edmonton’s own pick or the one they acquired from Philadelphia in the Brodie Merrill trade.

Corbeil’s agent, Chaka Bainbridge, says he and Corbeil were both surprised to hear of the trade and call Rush GM and coach Derek Keenan “the Danny Ocean of the National Lacrosse League.”

Corbeil is considered one of the up-and-coming star defenders in the NLL and should give Edmonton’s back end a significant boost. His presence with the Rush could also make it more palatable for his Brampton Excelsiors’ teammate Kyle Rubisch to join the club if they select him second in the Boston Blazers dispersal draft, as they are expected to.

In return for Corbeil, Buffalo gets the first pick in the second round of this year’s very deep entry draft, which should yield a good player, as well as the first rounder next year.

Stay tuned for further details as they become available.
