Last Night: Two win Tommies too much for Lakers, Chiefs silence powerful A’s attack

Things did not go as most would have had planned last night, Missy beating Peterborough 13-10 in a late season shocker.
Thought you knew how the Junior ‘A’ standings would fall into place during this last week of regular season ball in Canada? Think again. Last night the Mississauga Tomahawks, left for dead and counted out by most at the bottom of the OLA basement, completed one of 2011’s biggest bombshell upsets, topping the high ranking Peterborough Lakers 13-10 in their second to last game of the season. The Tommies were led by Martin Whittaker’s 4-goals and an unheard of 56-saves by backstop Rance Vigeau. But it didn’t end there… the Burlington Chiefs held the usually guns a blazin’ St. Catharines Athletics offense to just 2-goals in their outta left field, suffocating 10-2 pounding of the shoulda been easily favoured A’s. With the playoffs just about a week away and more upsets over the past few days than the entire season combined (before Canada Day), things might get interesting, at least in Ontario. Just for fun, since it was a quiet night across the ‘A’ board, check out all Junior ‘A’ post-season matchups if they started tonight, and check back to IL Indoor Wednesday for our updated Power Rankings.
