Junior ‘A’ scoring chase: The best ever and this year’s top provincial point producers

Before an impressive career in the NCAA and NHL, Adam Oates put up epic numbers with the Etobicoke Eclipse in the OLA.
At a few players’ current regular season scoring pace, we will likely see some of the best individual point total finishes in Canadian Junior ‘A’ lacrosse in quite some time.
Both Alex Kedoh Hill (Six Nations Arrows) and Wesley Berg (Coquitlam Adanacs) are dropping digits that will put them in lofty company, if of course they can keep it up, while Greg Bourret (Edmonton Eclipse) is stringing together a pretty impressive offensive resume himself in Alberta. After the jump, check out what the above mentioned trio is capable of this year and also the best single seasons in OLA, BCJALL and RMLL history.
First off, before we delve into the numbers, have to dish out major props to the man and his website that made today’s post and countless others on this site over the years possible. Larry “Wamp” Power has poured in more countless (and unpaid) hours into tracking the statistical history of the sport north of the boarder than anyone else past, present and surely future. His website, Power’s Bible of Lacrosse, is the go to guide for anyone looking up digits, any type of history or just wants to kill a day learning about the roots of the game. All today’s statistics were pulled from his unmatched web presence.
ONTARIO
So how good statistically has Kedoh Hill been in Six Nations this year? Currently leading the province in points with 73 in 13 games for the Arrows, at his present pace, Hill could put up end-of-year numbers that haven’t been seen since the early and mid 90’s. Hill is averaging over 6 points a game, which would see him break through the 130-point barrier in the OLA, a recent rarity in the game. The last time a player posted 130 in Ontario? While current pro prospects Andrew Potter and Jesse Guerin came close when they finished with 125 and 121-points respectively in 2009, the last time someone hit 130 was Gavin Prout with 131 in 1999. Hill’s current average would have him sitting at 134 after Six Nations’ regular season is put to bed, not since 1994 when John Grant (160) and Tracey Kelusky (135) rocked the scoring charts has anyone taken their stats that far. Only 88 players all-time have ever touched 130 in Ontario, an exclusive club that includes the likes of retired NHLer Adam Oates, the very legendary Gaylord Powless and current Whitby Warriors (and Edmonton Rush) head coach Derek Keenan. Check out the best single season Junior ‘A’ point totals in the OLA below.

BRITISH COLUMBIA
While Wesley Berg’s current season won’t be quite as epic as what Hill’s doing at the other end of the country, it’s still pretty impressive. Berg, who actually missed a game earlier this year, is still on pace to register 117-points with the Coquitlam Adanacs in 2011. The last time anyone has gone that high in the BCJALL? Lewis Ratcliff scored 127-points with the Victoria Shamrocks in 2002, but going past even just the 100-point barrier has been rare in BC recently. Including Ratcliff, just five players have blasted through the 100-point mark since he did it; Scott Ranger (118), Garrett Billings (104), Trevor Moore (102) and Robert Church (107) the other club members. Check out the best ever single seasons from a points perceptive below, current Washington Stealth coach Kevin Alexander owning the only two ever 200+ point seasons in the league.

ALBERTA
Alberta’s history is obviously not what Ontario or BC record books own, the Rocky Mountain’s Junior ‘A’ commingling Senior ‘B’ loop only around for about a decade now. The most impressive single season we could confirm was Kevin Wallin’s last year of junior lacrosse, registering 87-points in 2010. While it’s unlikely that current scoring chart leader Holden Cattoni (50) or the better points/per gamer Greg Bourret will touch Wallin’s almost 90, both will likely be added to a list of only 9 players that have cracked the 60-point barrier in Alberta. Check out those names below.
| Season | Player | Team | GP | G | A | Pts |
| 2010 | Kevin Wallin | Edmonton Miners | 20 | 35 | 52 | 87 |
| 2010 | Dan Taylor | Calgary Mountaineers | 19 | 31 | 39 | 70 |
| 2010 | Tyler Melnyk | Calgary Mountaineers | 20 | 35 | 29 | 64 |
| 2010 | Kirby Zdrill | Edmonton Eclipse | 18 | 25 | 37 | 62 |
| 2009 | Simon Giourmetakis | Edmonton Eclipse | 19 | 32 | 46 | 78 |
| 2009 | Sean Reid | Edmonton Eclipse | 20 | 13 | 55 | 68 |
| 2009 | Carson Barton | Edmonton Eclipse | 20 | 37 | 29 | 66 |

| 2006 | Simon Giourmetakis | Edmonton Eclipse | 18 | 27 | 34 | 61 |
