Last Night: Whitby Warriors hand Six Nations Arrows first loss of 2011 season

In a heated clash at Iroquois Park in Whitby last night, the Warriors handed the Six Nations Arrows their first loss of the 2011 season, taking the penalty filled contest 14-13. The game saw 191 penalty minutes dished out, including 40 to Whitby’s Emerson Clark alone, who was booted at the end of the second period for his spill with the Arrows’ Derek Searle. Clark, a former Clarington Green Gael and current Oshawa General (OHL), wasn’t the only one shown the door, Whitby Head Coach Derek Keenan also ejected while things got really heated 40 minutes in. The Warriors, a Minto Cup contender who have struggled to find their form early in the season, needed a positive result last night to readjust their campaign; Mark Matthews with 4-goals and 3-assists, Mark Cockerton netting the game winner. The Arrows got another strong game from Johnny Powless, who had 5-goals last night, 21 over his last five starts.
