Adams tears ACL with U of Detroit Mercy, surgery successful but misses A’s season

After an impressive freshman season with Detroit Mercy, Adams will be sidelined this summer after successful knee surgery.
IL Indoor has confirmed that St. Catharines Ahtletics forward Shayne Adams, who led all freshman NCAA DI goal scorers during his first season at the University of Detroit Mercy this past spring, will be out for the entire Junior ‘A’ season after tearing his ACL and meniscus while playing for the Titans during their MAAC semi-final win over Canisius College. Detroit won the game 9-8 before falling to Siena in the division finals.
Adams recently had successful surgery to repair his damaged knee, but will obviously miss the A’s 2011 campaign while recovering and later rehabbing, St. Catharines jumping out to an impressive 5-2 start over the past few weeks, including a win over the Toronto Beaches last night.
The sidelined Adams was one of 2009’s top Junior ‘A’ rookies anywhere in Canada, an IL Indoor Rookie of the Year Honourable Mention. Last year Adams upped his production with the Athletics, finishing with 32-goals and 43-assists, and was expected to have a big impact on the club in 2011.
St. Catharines is currently just two points behind the first place Six Nations Arrows (6-0-0) in the OLA standings, looking to crack the playoffs for the six straight summer, last winning the Minto Cup in 2003.
