IL Indoor has confirmed with Orangeville Northmen GM Doug Sawyer, who recently took over for the club’s longtime manager Bob Clevely, that the defending Ontario Lacrosse Association champions have picked up forward AJ Masson from the Barrie Lakeshores.
As part of the trade the Northmen also pickup the Lakeshores’ second round 2012 draft pick, sending intermediate goalie Colton Horan, former Orangeville draft pick and Centre Wellington Junior ‘C’ regular Joe Batte and an undisclosed amount of cash to Barrie.
Masson, who has spent the last two summers playing Junior ‘B’ lacrosse for the Newmarket Saints, scoring 63 goals in two regular seasons and playoffs, is currently competing in his sophomore year at the University of Vermont. The new Horn Head has three goals in five games for the Catamounts, also leading all attackers and short stick middies with 14 ground balls.
“We are happy to have acquired a player of AJ’s ability,” said Sawyer. “We expect him to contribute to our next two seasons.”
The Northmen, who after back-to-back Minto Cup wins lost last year’s to the BCJALL’s Coquitlam Adanacs, return several veteran players in 2011, including IL Indoor’s Goalie and Player of the Year Dillon Ward, OLA Playoff MVP Jeremy Noble, recent NLL Rookie of the Week Rob Hellyer, fellow pro rookie and 2011 NLL Entry Draft first rounder Brandon Ivey (Calgary Roughnecks) and a number of other high profile Junior ‘A’ talent at both ends of the floor.
