After an intensive weekend at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena during the Toronto Rock’s free agent and rookie camp, the team has confirmed the 34 players that will now be competing at their main training camp which kicks off this weekend, again at Six Nations’ ILA.
Still in the mix and competing for the Rock’s backup spot behind the recently re-signed Bob Watson are former Champion’s Cup winning vets Gee Nash and Pat Campbell, both goalies on the shelf last year. The team’s second string keeper position is completely up for grabs after the retirement of Steve Dietrich over the weekend, the future Hall of Famer taking on the club’s goalie coach role for 2011.
Nash and Campbell are two of ten players that impressed enough during Toronto’s mini-camp over the past week to earn a ticket to the team’s all-important main camp. Joining the two goalies are Pat Saunders, Andrew Potter, Rob Hellyer, Brice Queener, Ryan Dilks, Damon Edwards, Glen Bryan and Aaron Pascas.
Toronto’s returning group of vets from last season, others added over the off-season, include Geoff McNulty, Pat Maddalena, Mat McLeod, Drew Petkoff, Sandy Chapman, Tim O’Brien, Anthony Lackey, Rob Marshall, Colin Doyle, Kasey Beirnes, Creighton Reid, Kyle Ross, Garrett Billings, Blaine Manning, Patrick Merrill, Stephan Leblanc, Phil Sanderson, Brendon Doran, Jeff Gilbert, Mike Hobbins, Cam Woods, Josh Wasson, Stephen Hoar and Watson.
The team will narrow down their search for their 23-man roster during their main camp this weekend, a December 4th exhibition game against the Colorado Mammoth, and a pair of scrimmages in mid-December against Buffalo Bandits and Minnesota Swarm.
