The U.S. Indoor Lacrosse Team has named 18 players to its roster for the 2011 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships. Five more players will be selected in February from a player pool for the final team that will travel to Prague, Czech Republic May 21-28.
This may be the Americans’ most experienced team yet thanks to more NCAA players picking up box lacrosse and playing in both summer leagues in Canada and the National Lacrosse League. This roster features the 2010 NLL MVP in Casey Powell, as well as ’10 second-team All-Pro defender John Orsen. Other big names include Drew Westervelt, Brendan Mundorf, Paul Rabil, Max Seibald, Eric Martin, Matt Zash and Chris Schiller, who all have experience with the U.S. Team in field lacrosse.
Scott Ditzell, Orsen, Erik Miller, Schiller and Zash will play in their second-straight World Indoor event, after placing third with Team USA at the 2007 games in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
“The chance to represent the United States at this elite level is the ultimate honor in lacrosse,” USIL President and GM Graham D’Alvia said in a press release. “I am honored and look forward to the opportunity to further develop this team that will represent our great country in this sport, both on and off the turf.”
