UncategorizedNLL first-round draft picks: Who has signed and who hasn’t? Plus the links

Cody Jamieson, the No. 1 draft pick, has yet to sign with the Rochester Knighthawks.
The 2010 entry draft for the National Lacrosse League has come and gone and in the meantime between then and now, there’s been some paper pushing and number crunching to get these rookies under contract. But as training camps are just around the corner, we’re wondering just who has been signed and who still is without a deal. The 10 picks of the first round were shared between 5 teams, with Rochester and Calgary getting 3 each. Minnesota’s signing of Andrew Suitor, the No. 4 overall pick, is the latest first-rounder to sign but there’s 1 team that hasn’t signed any of the players it picked in the first round. It might be a bit surprising to know which team it is, but fans really have no need to worry.
There was much hoopla going into this draft because of the position the Rochester Knighthawks put themselves in to get the No. 1 overall pick and they surprised no one by taking Cody Jamieson. They took Jarrett Davis No. 5 overall and wrapped up the first round by taking Ryan McLelland. But as of today, none of them have signed, although there is talk that Davis is already inked. We just haven’t heard about it in an official capacity.
That’s certainly no reason to panic in the NLL world. Deals often take time to finish, but there really is no cause for concern among Knighthawks fans considering the bloodlines Jamieson shares with team owner, and uncle, Curt Styres. So, it’ll get done. It’s just a matter of when, not if.
The other interesting scenario is in Boston, where the Blazers put Kyle Rubisch, the No. 2 overall pick, on the inactive draft list. Outside of that and the Rochester situation, all the other picks have been signed, according to the NLL transaction page. Boston’s other pick, David Brock, is signed.
That means Calgary has locked up Curtis Dickson, Dan MacRae and Brandon Ivey. And Buffalo’s got Travis Irving under contract. All of the rookie deals are for 1 year with the exception of Brock, who signed for 2.
We’re still a few weeks away from the opening of most camps, but some squads are in better shape than others when it comes to knowing they’ll have their prized rooks on the floor. When the Rochester deals get finished remains to be seen, there really is little doubt they’ll get done if they haven’t already.
